The fight against workplace deaths is “a battle of civilization,” Italian Chamber of Deputies President Lorenzo Fontana stated, declaring that a nation’s civility is measured by its prevention efforts. He made the remarks to ANSA during an institutional visit to the Irccs Neuromed research park in Pozzilli, commenting on the tragic workplace fatalities recorded that day.
Fontana emphasized the profound tragedy of “going to work and not returning home.” He confirmed his collaboration with the parliamentary commission addressing workplace safety, noting that while investments are important and rules exist, they are “unfortunately sometimes disregarded.”
The battle, he underscored, is fought “day by day” and is not solely legislative. “It is a battle fought with on-the-ground controls and scrutiny over public contracts,” Fontana said. He concluded by calling for a united effort, stressing that this issue “concerns everyone and concerns the very civilization of a country.”
