Fatal Workplace Accidents Claim Multiple Lives Across Italy

A series of fatal workplace accidents occurred across Italy today, claiming the lives of at least four workers.

In Turin, a 69-year-old worker of Egyptian origins was killed and a 70-year-old colleague was injured when the basket of a crane operating at a height of 12 meters fell on Via Genova. The victim was reportedly changing an advertising billboard on a five-story building at approximately 7:30 a.m. when the incident occurred for reasons still under investigation. The injured man, who was at the base of the crane, was transported to the Molinette hospital in a state of shock. Carabinieri from the Lingotto station and SPRESAL (Local Health Authority Prevention and Safety at Work) inspectors are investigating the scene. This location is the same site where three workers, Filippo Falotico (20), Roberto Peretto (52), and Marco Pozzetti (54), died in December 2021 after falling 40 meters while assembling a construction tower crane.

In a separate incident in Riposto, near Catania, a 40-year-old worker died after falling from scaffolding. The man was involved in the expansion of a building materials warehouse and was pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency services and local Carabinieri responded, with investigations also requested from the SPRESAL and INAIL (National Institute for Insurance against Accidents at Work).

In Monza, on Via Mauri, a 48-year-old worker died inside an industrial valve manufacturing company. Preliminary reports indicate the man was crushed by a piece of machinery. He was already deceased when emergency services arrived. The dynamics of the accident are being examined by ATS (Health Protection Agency) and the State Police.

Another tragedy occurred in central Rome, where a worker was crushed by machinery on the Tiber riverbank near Piazza Trilussa. Police, forensics units, and fire fighters were on the scene to investigate the circumstances of the fatal accident.
