Giorgio Armani will be laid to rest beside his parents and brother in the small cemetery of Rivalta, on the first slopes of the Valtrebbia valley. The funeral will be held in a strictly private ceremony tomorrow afternoon in the village, which will be completely sealed off for the occasion.
The news, first reported by the newspaper Libertà, has been confirmed in a statement from the Association of Castles of the Duchy of Parma, Piacenza and Pontremoli, led by Orazio Zanardi Landi, the owner of the village. “Tomorrow,” he stated, “Rivalta will be sealed off for security reasons and to ensure the privacy of the funeral.”
The designer frequently visited the medieval village to pay his respects at his mother’s grave and to eat “tortelli con la coda” at the Locanda del Falco restaurant. He was also well acquainted with Count Zanardi Landi. The association noted, “Armani returns to where he was born, to Piacenza, with an immense declaration of love for his home province and for those stones of the Trebbia river that gave life to the unmistakable, refined, elegant, and timeless Armani greige.”
The Association of Castles of the Duchy, together with the Castle and village, “while renewing its condolences to the family of Giorgio Armani and his loved ones, kindly asks for the understanding and utmost respect from tourists and visitors during the central hours of the day on September 8th.”
