Intimidating Graffiti Targeting Director of Liliana Segre Documentary Appears in Milan

A swastika, an equals sign, and a red Star of David were painted on the pavement in front of the office of Ruggero Gabbai, the director of the documentary ‘Liliana,’ about life senator and Holocaust survivor Liliana Segre. Gabbai reported the incident to the Carabinieri police.

He described it as “a very serious fact” in a social media post, calling it “an intimidating graffito in front of the windows of my studio.” Gabbai stated, “It is certainly someone who knows our cinematographic activity and our filmography, based on the drama of the Shoah, the mafia, the respect for rights, legality, and minorities, who wanted to send a clear message in its violence and vulgarity.”

He assured the public, “We will continue to work to seek dialogue and the deepening of historical and political themes, without retreating a single inch.” Speaking to ANSA, Gabbai expressed concern over a widening climate of hatred, calling the act personal intimidation. “This is a phenomenon that is expanding. If there is no dialogue, one does not know how to proceed,” he said.
