Fashion Icon Giorgio Armani Dies at 91

MILAN – Giorgio Armani, the visionary founder of the global fashion empire that bears his name, has died. He was 91. The Armani Group announced his passing in a statement, noting he died peacefully on July 11th, surrounded by his loved ones.

The statement read: “With infinite sorrow, the Armani Group announces the death of its creator, founder, and tireless driving force: Giorgio Armani. Known to employees and collaborators with respect and admiration as ‘Mr. Armani,’ he worked indefatigably until his final days, dedicating himself to the company, its collections, and its many ongoing and new projects.”

It credited Armani with creating a vision that extended from fashion to every aspect of living, anticipating the times with extraordinary clarity and pragmatism. He was guided by an “inexhaustible curiosity” and an attention to the present and to people, creating an open dialogue with the public and becoming a beloved and respected figure.

The announcement highlighted his commitment to his community, particularly his beloved city of Milan, and emphasized that the 50-year-old company was built on a foundation of independence in thought and action. The family and employees pledged to carry the Group forward in respect and continuity of these values.

“In this company, we have always felt like part of a family,” the note, signed by employees and family, concluded. “Today, with deep emotion, we feel the void left by the one who founded this family and made it grow with vision, passion, and dedication. It is in his spirit that we, the employees and the family who always worked alongside Mr. Armani, commit to protecting what he built and to carrying his company forward in his memory, with respect, responsibility, and love.”
