Pasquale D’Ascola has been named the new First President of the Court of Cassation. The decision was made by the full council of the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSM) in an extraordinary plenary session. The meeting was chaired by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in his capacity as head of the CSM. D’Ascola was appointed with 14 votes, defeating his challenger, Stefano Mogini, by a single vote.
