Train services across Italy face significant disruptions, including delays and cancellations, from 9:00 PM tonight, September 4th, until 6:00 PM tomorrow, Friday, September 5th, due to a nationwide railway strike. The industrial action, impacting both passenger and freight transport, was called by the base union Sindacato Generale di Base (SGB) and the National Assembly of Train Drivers and Onboard Staff.
Trenitalia and Italo have stated they will ensure the operation of a limited number of medium and long-distance trains. The schedules for these guaranteed services are available on the companies’ respective websites.
For regional services operated by Trenitalia and Trenitalia Tper, essential services are guaranteed on weekdays during the morning “protection window” from 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM.
Passengers opting to cancel their journeys are eligible for refunds. For Intercity and Frecce trains, refunds can be requested from the announcement of the strike up until the scheduled departure time of the booked train. For Regional trains, the deadline for refund requests is midnight of the day before the strike.
In a separate development, a strike by Rome’s public transport company, ATAC, which was scheduled from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM today, has recently concluded.
