Europeans are prepared to decisively contribute to strong security guarantees for Ukraine following a negotiated solution, with Germany pledging to play its part, according to a statement from the German chancellery released after a meeting of allies in Paris.
“The federal government is prepared to expand its commitment,” the statement read. It further clarified that Germany would decide on a potential military intervention “in a timely manner, once the framework conditions have been clarified.” The note specified that this assessment depends on “the nature and scope of the commitment from the United States and the outcome of the negotiation process.” Any final decision on such matters will, however, be subject to a vote by the German Bundestag.
