Venice Mayor Mourns Giorgio Armani as a Global Icon of Italian Elegance

With the passing of Giorgio Armani, Italy and the world have lost a man who knew how to interpret and reinvent elegance, transforming it into a true cultural and economic enterprise. His entrepreneurial figure will remain a point of reference not only for fashion but for the entire ‘Made in Italy’ brand, capable of uniting creativity, quality, and a passion for work. These were values he also brought to the world of sport, which “fosters team spirit and a sense of community that is the foundation of civic life,” stated Venice Mayor Luigi Brugnaro in a note expressing his sorrow.

“I had the honor, in 2023, of presenting him with the Golden Lion, crafted in the glassblowing furnaces of Murano, in Venice,” Brugnaro recalled. “It was a recognition that, as a city, we wanted to pay to a great Italian, who knew how to give value to the talent and ingenuity of our artisans, bringing them to an international scale. Giorgio Armani had a special bond with Venice and its Film Festival, a relationship he always nurtured and celebrated throughout his extraordinary career. On behalf of the City of Venice and personally, I extend my deepest condolences to his loved ones, colleagues, and the entire Armani Group.”
