Hacked Private Surveillance Footage from Homes and Clinics Sold on Public Website

A portal on the clear web, easily accessible through search engines, has been discovered selling thousands of illegally obtained audio-video recordings from over 2,000 surveillance cameras inside private homes, aesthetic centers, and medical offices. The site was uncovered by the Treviso-based cybersecurity firm Yarix, a competence center for the Var Group, which reported it to the Italian Postal Police.

Active since at least December 2024, the portal allows users to view short clips for free and offers the option to purchase full access to a camera feed or even take control of it, with prices ranging from $20 to $575 per device. The private videos, stolen from residences worldwide, are cataloged on the site by location, room, individuals, and the activity recorded. An analysis of camera IDs indicates the footage originates from numerous countries, including France, Germany, Russia, Ukraine, Mexico, and Argentina. Approximately 150 videos have so far been identified as coming from Italy.

According to a statement from Yarix, the site primarily hosts thousands of audiovisual recordings of a pornographic nature. It operates a paid subscription model with rates varying based on a video’s popularity and view count; some clips have been viewed over 20,000 times. Access requires no registration, and a dedicated Telegram bot facilitates the purchase of access to one or multiple cameras. Content is searchable through a tag system.

The portal’s domain is registered in Tonga, a choice likely motivated by the anonymity it affords the site’s operator and the nation’s flexible legal environment, which often lacks rigorous identity checks and international cooperation agreements.

As stated in the site’s “About” section, its claimed objective is to “draw public attention to the problem of personal data leaks caused by imperfections in hardware and software.”

Yarix reported the discovery to the Venetian Postal Police via the Venice Operational Center for Cybersecurity (Cosc). The firm’s Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring the portal and conducting further analysis to aid the investigation, which will also determine if all the videos are from hidden cameras and feature unaware victims. Investigators have not ruled out the possibility that some recordings or live streams may feature actors to attract more users and paid subscriptions.
