Lazio ranks twelfth among Italian regions in fulfilling the Essential Levels of Care (Lea), the services the national health system provides free of charge or for a small co-pay. The finding comes from the Gimbe Foundation, which analyzed data from the Ministry of Health’s 2023 report, ‘Monitoring Lea through the new guarantee system.’
Lazio’s score for 2023 is 216, a decrease of 10 points from the previous year, yet it remains among the 13 regions deemed compliant. A detailed assessment of the 26 indicators in the New Guarantee System (NSG) places the region 15th for both prevention and local health district services. It performs better in hospital care, ranking 8th.
“The data confirms what I have long argued: the situation in Lazio is sharply deteriorating, reversing the positive trend of previous years,” said former Health Councillor and current regional councilor for Azione, Alessio D’Amato. “This is especially true in prevention, where the region lost six positions to fall to 15th place, and in community care, where it fell three positions to 15th. These are two aspects completely underestimated by President Rocca. Failure to invest in prevention and local care risks overburdening hospitals with inappropriate services,加重ing the workload for professionals. Overall, Lazio has worsened, losing three positions to drop to 12th place in the general ranking compared to the previous year.”
