A 52-year-old man from Matelica (Macerata) owes his life to a swift diagnosis made by the Ferracuti Central Pharmacy. The pharmacy’s cardiac Holter monitor test detected a severe acute ischemia, which was later determined to be a 90% coronary artery occlusion. The man had visited the pharmacy on August 11th for cardiac monitoring due to frequent episodes of tachycardia and chest tightness. The following day, while returning the monitoring device, he reported new episodes of chest pain that had occurred during the period.
The Matelica municipal administration announced that, thanks to a connection with the medEA medical reporting center, the test results arrived within hours and highlighted “numerous episodes consistent with an acute ischemia.” The pharmacy team, led by Dr. Giovanna Ferracuti, immediately contacted the patient and urgently directed him to the emergency room in Fabriano (Ancona). The man was subsequently transferred to Torrette Hospital in Ancona, where doctors confirmed the severe coronary blockage and performed a life-saving procedure.
“Another life saved thanks to service pharmacies,” commented the President of the Marche Region, Francesco Acquaroli. “This is our vision for widespread healthcare services across the territory—a capillary network to provide timely responses to citizens.”
