Independent judicial advisors Roberto Fontana and Andrea Mirenda will abstain in tomorrow’s extraordinary plenary session of the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSM) to appoint the next First President of the Court of Cassation.
The two magistrates explained that their decision was made “in full awareness of the delicate nature of this choice within the framework of the self-imposed constraints governing the matter.” Two candidates are in contention to succeed Margerita Cassano, whose term expires on September 9: the Court of Cassation’s Deputy President, Pasquale D’Ascola, and its Secretary General, Stefano Mogini.
