A severe weather system that struck Liguria overnight was particularly concentrated on the central and eastern parts of the region, following its impact on the Savona area yesterday afternoon. The meteorological alert concluded at 6 AM this morning.
The intense overnight storms brought heavy rain and lightning, especially to the valleys behind Genoa. Croce Orero recorded 170 mm of rainfall in two hours, with Pian dei Ratti receiving 120 mm. This caused the Trebbia stream at Rovegno and the Aveto stream at Cabanne di Rezzoaglio to exceed their danger levels. Precautions led to the evacuation of four residents in Rezzoaglio. The eastern area of Liguria was also severely hit, with over 200 mm of rain per square meter falling in a couple of hours. This record volume caused all tributaries of the Entella River to swell, prompting civil protection and municipal technicians to monitor the situation throughout the night and close sections of the river mouth as per the emergency plan. By dawn, the water levels of the Entella had receded, and the river was flowing normally out to sea.
Firefighters responded to dozens of calls in the interior, primarily for trees fallen across roads. The municipality of San Colombano Certenoli is experiencing critical issues due to multiple landslides, the most serious of which has closed the Scoglina pass. Further landslides and mudslides have also been reported in the Savona area.
