A car struck two pedestrians, killing one, in a tragedy on the outskirts of Rome in the town of Ardea. The driver of a Hyundai hit two individuals; one victim died at the scene, while the other, seriously injured, was transported to the hospital under a code red emergency response. Local police and Carabinieri were on site to conduct investigations, with high speed suspected as a possible cause of the accident.
In a separate incident on Saturday afternoon, another fatal crash occurred in Rome’s Pisana district involving a car and a scooter. The 63-year-old motorcyclist was killed. The 38-year-old car driver was injured and taken to the hospital. The road was temporarily closed to traffic.
Reacting to the incidents, regional councilor for Azione and promoter of the proposed ‘Lazio Strade Sicure’ law, Alessio D’Amato, stated: “Road safety is a real emergency. There are too many deaths and injuries. This is a bloody Saturday. Too many lives and families shattered. I urge for the approval of the Lazio Safe Roads bill to implement the concrete actions planned and to seriously invest in prevention and road safety education. Rome and Lazio have the worst record in Italy, and more must be done: we cannot remain powerless in the face of this slaughter.”
