Confirmed Case of Chikungunya Reported in San Donato Milanese

A confirmed case of Chikungunya has been registered on Via Morandi in San Donato Milanese. The Milan ATS health authority reported the case to the local municipality, which has scheduled a disinfection operation for a 200-meter radius encompassing Via Morandi, Via Europa, Via Maritano, Via Pascoli, Via Leopardi, and Piazza Malan. This area will undergo extraordinary disinfection treatments, which will supplement the already scheduled cycles of adulticide and larvicide mosquito control interventions.

A municipal ordinance now obliges residents to eliminate or treat any potential sources of stagnant water where larvae can develop and to carry out anti-mosquito measures. The order further recommends the use of insect repellent, the wearing of light-colored clothing that covers the skin—especially from dusk onward—and staying in environments fitted with mosquito nets or air conditioning systems. Finally, if mosquitoes are present indoors, the use of pyrethrum-based sprays or diffusers is recommended, ensuring rooms are well-aerated before re-entering.

“The situation is being constantly monitored by ATS and there is no cause for alarm,” explained Massimo Zuin, the Councillor for Health. “The measures contained in the ordinance are those provided for by health protocols and require everyone’s cooperation. We therefore urge citizens, particularly those residing on the streets cited in the ordinance, to scrupulously follow the prescriptions indicated by the municipality and to implement the recommended behaviors: prevention is crucial to reduce the risk of further spread.”
