At the request of Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, the Italian Foreign Ministry’s ‘Task Force Dazi’ has been activated to protect national products from potential misinterpretations of the EU-US agreement. The move follows reports that some US customs authorities are requesting higher duties for products such as Grana Padano and Parmigiano Reggiano. The Foreign Ministry has taken specific steps by engaging the US Embassy in Rome and the EU Commission’s Directorate-General for Trade. Similar instructions have been issued to the Italian Embassy in Washington. “Italy has always supported a frank and constructive approach with the US and will continue to ask for the correct application of the agreement,” a statement said.
