Aosta firefighters were called in to assist police late last night to retrieve a 13-year-old boy who had climbed onto a valuable marble cornice of the 18th-century portal of the Saint-Étienne church in the historic center of Aosta. The minor, who was in the company of friends, had undertaken the stunt, allegedly in an attempt to retrieve a plastic bottle that had been thrown as a joke. No charges were filed against the young man, who was subsequently released to his father. The incident follows recent reports of several acts of vandalism in the area, some of which have targeted the same church.
