60-Year-Old Woman Robbed and Raped in Rome Park

A 60-year-old woman has reported being robbed of her mobile phone and raped in a park on the outskirts of Rome. The alleged attack occurred on Sunday morning shortly after 6 a.m. in the Tor Tre Teste park. Emergency services responded, transporting the woman to a hospital under the “Pink Protocol” for victims of gender-based violence, while the Casilina company of the Carabinieri police have opened an investigation.

The woman, a local resident who was walking her dog at the time and is said to be in shock, described the event to paramedics as “a ten-minute nightmare.” According to the initial reconstruction, an unknown man suddenly approached her in the park, which was deserted at that hour. After snatching the mobile phone from her waist bag, he raped her. The victim returned home and raised the alarm only after the assailant had fled.

The hospital activated the Pink Protocol, and medical examinations reportedly found signs consistent with a sexual assault. The Carabinieri from the Casilina company have launched an investigation to identify the perpetrator. Authorities are reviewing footage from area surveillance cameras and are searching for any potential witnesses who may have noticed a man loitering in the neighborhood yesterday morning. The woman, who is scheduled to be interviewed again, initially described her attacker as a foreigner.

Alessio D’Amato, a regional councillor and the Rome secretary of the Azione party, commented: “The violence suffered by a woman in Tor Tre Teste is an extremely serious fact. We extend our full solidarity to the victim and her family and hope the perpetrator of this horrific episode is identified quickly, an event which again raises the issue of safety in city parks. We ask the capital’s administration to quickly follow up on the motion approved unanimously in the Campidoglio and proposed by Azione city councillors, to activate a special urban security unit for parks and to enhance video surveillance and lighting. Resources were allocated to Rome in the latest regional budget adjustment to strengthen video surveillance in parks. Concrete and immediate actions are now needed.”
