Atalanta Coach Juric Analyzes Pisa Clash: Performance Over Result, Scamacca’s Return

Ivan Juric expressed greater satisfaction with his team’s performance than with the final scoreline following Atalanta’s match against Pisa. The Croatian coach admitted his side initially “struggled against the long balls reaching Touré on the flank,” but was pleased with the technical adjustments made in attack after halftime, noting he “saw many good, interesting, and positive things,” despite regretting the lack of additional goals.

Juric highlighted the “rhythm and aggression” displayed in the second half. He emphasized the need for growth among younger players like Charles De Ketelaere, Daniel Maldini, and Kamaldeen Sulemana, adding wryly that had Maldini and Gianluca Scamacca scored more, it would have been better, noting “Daniel had one of the chances for 2-1… these things happen.”

The manager was particularly pleased with Scamacca, who ended a 455-day goal drought in Serie A. “We are happy with Scamacca; his fitness is ahead of our expectations. However, we must also have the intelligence to substitute him to avoid any risk,” Juric stated.

Commenting on new signings, Juric said striker Nikola Krstovic, who arrived just three days ago, requires adjustments, particularly in his movement for crosses. He praised wing-back Nicola Zalewski’s offensive contribution, noting he “liked him a lot in the attack,” though acknowledging defensive improvements are needed, while also highlighting his generosity on the pitch.

Regarding team selection, Juric confirmed there was no mystery in starting Mario Pasalic over Ederson, who was being managed due to a recent knee issue. On the transfer market, Juric indicated the squad is “more or less complete,” except for being light in defensive cover. He also addressed the “unpleasant” ongoing situation concerning Ademola Lookman’s future. Finally, he stated that players like Ibrahim Sulemana and Palermo’s Matteo Palestra need more playing time at other clubs for their development, as limited minutes hinder their growth.
