The Tuscan Alpine and Speleological Rescue (Sast) teams from the Querceta and Massa stations have been engaged in search operations for a missing man since Friday afternoon. The operation was initiated at the request of the prefecture after the man’s car was found by the Carabinieri in Seravezza (Lucca), in the Apuan Alps.
The first day involved assessment and investigation into the possible hiking routes the man may have taken, with search teams and canine units scouring the trails. The focus was identified as trail itinerary 140, a ridge route that straddles the border between the operational areas of the Querceta and Massa rescue stations.
Search and clearance operations continued yesterday with two canine units and eight technicians from the two Sast stations. The operations were conducted alongside the Fire Department, which provided helicopter transport for teams consisting of two technicians and a dog handler. The search will continue today, weather permitting.
