Gian Piero Gasperini’s debut on the Roma bench was a successful one, as his new side secured a 1-0 win over Bologna in the season’s first direct clash for a European qualification spot. The victory was also a triumph for new signing Wesley, who scored the decisive goal in the 8th minute of the second half, immediately earning the ovation of his new fans. It was a far less positive outcome for Bologna, who were only truly dangerous when hitting the crossbar through Castro and also lost both Immobile and Casale to injury. In his first Roma lineup, Gasperini opted to start Ferguson over Dovbyk as the central striker, while Dybala began the match on the bench, coming on to replace Soulé in the 29th minute of the second half.
