Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that a potential summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was not discussed during former U.S. President Donald Trump’s meeting with Putin in Alaska. In an interview with NBC News published on the foreign ministry’s website, Lavrov clarified, “This was not discussed in Anchorage. It was raised later, as something impromptu that emerged from President Trump’s meeting with his guests in Washington.” Lavrov was sharply critical of Zelensky’s repeated calls for a meeting, calling it “fundamentally a game. A game he is very good at playing, because he wants theatrics in everything he does. He does not care about substance.”
