A catamaran adrift with its deceased skipper aboard was intercepted by the Coast Guard this morning off Punta Sabbioni, near the entrance to the Venetian Lagoon. The vessel was located in front of the San Lio dock and was carrying a party of foreign passengers, including one minor.
According to preliminary investigations, the skipper is believed to have suffered a fatal medical emergency. A coroner was dispatched to the scene.
The Venice Port Authority has taken charge of the situation, securing the catamaran and ensuring the safety of all persons on board.
