A tree branch fell from a plane tree in Florence’s Niccolò Acciaioli Square in the Galluzzo suburb at approximately 5:30 PM this afternoon, striking a 28-year-old woman who was passing by. The incident, caused by high winds, resulted in a foot injury.
The passerby was treated at the scene by emergency medical services (118) and transported to the hospital under a yellow code, indicating moderate severity. Municipal police patrols, firefighters, and the City’s Environmental Department responded. Officials conducted an on-site assessment and inspected the tree.
According to a statement from Palazzo Vecchio (City Hall), the fallen branch, 24 cm in diameter, broke off from the top of the tree. The tree had last been inspected on February 2, 2024, and was classified in risk category B (low), with no prescribed pruning necessary. The next inspection by appointed agronomists was scheduled for March 21, 2027.
City Welfare Councilor Nicola Paulesu visited the hospital and is in contact with health services to monitor the young woman’s condition.
