A 28-year-old man from Mali caused a major disturbance at Terminal 1 of Milan’s Malpensa Airport this morning after starting a fire near Gate 13, sending plumes of flame into the air and sparking panic among travelers. The individual also began smashing monitor screens with a hammer. He was subsequently restrained by security personnel from Sea, the company that operates the airport, and detained by the airport police. Firefighters intervened as a precautionary measure, evacuating the terminal and securing the area. Airport operations have since resumed. The man, who holds a subsidiary protection status and had no prior record, now faces charges of aggravated damage. A fast-track trial has been scheduled for tomorrow.
