The autopsy performed on Elton Bani, the 41-year-old construction worker who died on Sunday afternoon in Sant’Olcese during a Carabinieri intervention, has revealed he was struck by three Taser shocks. The procedure, conducted by medical examiner Isabella Caristo, indicates one shot grazed the front of his body. The other two, as previously indicated by initial investigations, struck the upper part of his back and are believed to have caused cardiac arrest.
Preliminary examination also suggests there were no pre-existing heart conditions that could have caused his death. The results of toxicology tests are still pending to determine if any substances were involved. Several abrasions were noted on the body; one on the arm is reported to have been caused by a car accident days before the tragedy, while others are consistent with the dynamics of the police intervention but were not deemed lethal.
Through his lawyer, Cristiano Mancuso, Bani’s brother stated he “cannot come to terms with what happened” and that he “wants justice.”
