A 26-year-old Romanian man was arrested by the Carabinieri in Santa Marinella (Rome) on serious suspicion of robbery following a tense incident at a local supermarket. The events unfolded yesterday when the suspect allegedly entered a supermarket on the Tolfa provincial road, filled bags with merchandise, and attempted to leave without paying.
The store’s manager intervened and confronted the man. The situation then escalated dramatically as the suspect, in an attempt to flee, violently assaulted the manager. After breaking free, the man first tried to escape on foot before rushing to a car he had parked nearby.
In his desperate attempt to get away, the suspect struck the manager’s arm with his vehicle’s side mirror, injuring him and putting his safety at risk. The alarming scene drew the attention of other customers, who immediately alerted emergency services by calling 112.
Carabinieri from the Santa Marinella station arrived on the scene promptly and managed to locate and apprehend the suspect. All the stolen goods were recovered in full and returned to the supermarket.
Despite the shock and the injury to his arm, the store manager did not suffer any serious consequences. The 26-year-old suspect is now in custody and awaiting judgement for charges of robbery.
