Two separate brush fires near railway lines in Tuscany brought train traffic to a temporary halt on Tuesday afternoon. The first incident occurred on the Florence-Prato line. From 3:45 p.m., service was suspended between Castello and Prato stations, resulting in significant delays, cancellations, and schedule alterations for trains. Firefighters were dispatched to the scene.
The blaze, which broke out near Via di Gonfienti in Prato, consumed 2,500 square meters of reeds on the railway embankment between Piazzale degli Etruschi and Via Firenze. State Police and personnel from the rail infrastructure manager RFI also responded to the emergency.
A second fire, the second of its kind in the area in recent days, erupted near the tracks between Grosseto and Alberese on the line for Rome-Ventimiglia. Service was suspended from approximately 5:00 p.m. as firefighters worked to extinguish the burning vegetation along the tracks.
