A gorilla infant has been born at the Zoosafari in Fasano, located in the province of Brindisi. Officials announced the birth is not only a unique event—the first of its kind in Italy in nearly 50 years—but also “a beacon of hope on the path toward the conservation and protection of the species,” according to a message posted on the park’s official social media page.
The mother, Tamani, “cuddles and protects him with her immense love, under the watchful eye of father Nasibu.” This birth follows the arrival of two other gorilla infants just over a year ago in the zoos of London and Prague.
