Russia launched its most intense aerial barrage against Ukraine since July 31st overnight, according to CNN’s tallies. The assault involved over 270 drones and included five Iskander-M ballistic missiles fired from the Rostov and Voronezh regions, as well as occupied Crimea. In addition, five X-101 missiles were launched by strategic aviation aircraft over the Caspian Sea. Ukrainian air defenses successfully intercepted two Iskander-M and four X-101 missiles.
The attacks across Ukraine over a 24-hour period until this morning resulted in at least eight fatalities and 54 injuries, CNN reports. According to regional military authorities, five people were killed in cities behind the front lines in the Donetsk region (east), while three were killed and 33 wounded in Russian strikes on the city of Zaporizhzhia. Civilians were also injured in Kharkiv, Kherson, Dnipropetrovsk, and Nikopol.
The Ukrainian Air Force detailed on Telegram that the overnight attack, which occurred during meetings in Washington between Donald Trump, Volodymyr Zelensky, and European leaders, consisted of 10 missiles and 270 drones of various types, including Shahed kamikaze models. The country’s air defenses shot down or neutralized with electronic warfare systems six missiles and 230 unmanned aircraft. Four missiles and 40 drones were hit over 16 different locations, with debris from the destroyed vehicles falling in three areas.
