A newly established Lake Operations Unit of the Milan Coast Guard, under the Ligurian Maritime Directorate, deployed 90 personnel across Lombardy’s Lake Garda, Lake Como, and Lake Maggiore during the August holiday weekend. Operating from 15 vessels in rotating shifts, agents carried out 84 naval missions, assisting or rescuing 51 individuals. Rigorous navigation safety checks totaled 971, resulting in 95 administrative fines amounting to €15,000.
This intensified surveillance forms part of the nationwide “Safe Seas and Lakes 2025” initiative, launched in June by the General Command of the Harbour Master’s Office and running through September. Specific operations saw the Lake Garda First Coast Guard Unit assist 17 people while issuing 21 fines. On Lake Como, the Third Coast Guard Unit imposed 27 fines and aided 21 individuals.
