High-speed rail (AV) service on the entire Bologna-Milan line resumed this morning as scheduled, following a suspension from August 11th to 17th for infrastructure renewal work. Italian Railway Network (RFI), part of the FS Italiane Group, operated three simultaneous construction sites in Parma, Campegine, and Rubiera to replace railway switches along the section. A workforce of 160 RFI technicians and contractor personnel utilized multiple heavy machines, including four telescopic cranes, for the project. These critical 140-meter-long, 200-ton switches—which enable trains to change tracks and connect the high-speed network to conventional lines—required segmentation into five parts each for handling. During the works, AV trains bypassed the affected section using conventional line tracks. From today until August 25th, trains will operate at initially reduced speeds over the renewed sections, extending travel times by up to 15 minutes, as mandated by infrastructure renewal regulations. Speeds will gradually increase to reach the line’s maximum permitted limit starting August 26th.
