A hearing to validate the arrest of Gioacchino Sacco, 49, was conducted this morning at Latina prison. Sacco, a Cassino native residing in Terracina, faces charges for striking and killing 16-year-old Federico Salvagni with his vehicle. The incident occurred on the evening of August 14 on Via Badino in southern Pontine province, where Salvagni was walking with his twin brother and a friend.
During proceedings before Judge Laura Morselli, Sacco’s defense requested house arrest as a less stringent alternative to detention. The judge is expected to rule on this appeal within hours.
Prosecutors have formally sought to uphold Sacco’s imprisonment, charging him with aggravated vehicular homicide for fleeing the scene without aiding the victim. Salvagni’s funeral will be held tomorrow at 2 PM in Latina’s Sacro Cuore Church.
