Udine police have arrested a 32-year-old Moroccan citizen for assaulting medical personnel at the city’s Santa Maria della Misericordia hospital. The incident occurred after healthcare workers denied the patient’s request for discharge, citing his apparent impairment from suspected cannabinoid use and the need for continued observation.
Following the denial, the aggressor damaged hospital furnishings before physically attacking the medical staff attempting to restrain him. Two nurses sustained minor bruises during the assault.
Police responded swiftly to the emergency thanks to a new direct-alert system linking the hospital’s emergency room with the police headquarters, enabling officers to quickly contain the situation.
