Albanian Man Dies After Carabinieri Taser Incident Near Genoa

A 47-year-old man of Albanian origin died Sunday evening in Sant’Olcese, near Genoa, after being struck by a Taser deployed by Carabinieri officers. Preliminary investigations suggest the Taser shocks may have triggered a cardiac arrest.

Prosecutor Paola Calleri is set to open an involuntary manslaughter case and has ordered an autopsy. The investigation has been assigned to the Carabinieri unit at the courthouse.

According to initial reports, neighbors alerted the Carabinieri after hearing screams and loud noises from the man’s apartment. Two patrols responded and found the 47-year-old in a highly agitated state, reportedly intoxicated.

One officer fired a Taser shot which grazed both the man and a colleague. A second shot was fired but reportedly had no effect. Preliminary accounts state the Taser was then handed to a second officer who successfully deployed it against the man. Medical personnel (118) arrived promptly but could only confirm his death.
