Right-Wing Rivals Set for Runoff in Bolivia After First Round Vote

Partial official results confirm a right-wing senator and a former right-wing president will compete for Bolivia’s presidency following Sunday’s first-round elections, ending two decades of leftist governance. With 92% of votes counted, Senator Rodrigo Paz unexpectedly leads with 32.15%, narrowly ahead of ex-President Jorge “Tuto” Quiroga at 26.87%. Millionaire businessman Samuel Doria Medina trails in third (19.86%) and has pledged support for Paz. The main leftist contender, Senate President Andronico Rodríguez, finished a distant fourth.
