Bova Seeks Trademark for Viral WhatsApp Phrases Amid Extortion Probe

In early August, lawyers for actor Raoul Bova filed applications with the Italian Patent and Trademark Office to register several phrases extracted from WhatsApp voice messages. These messages are central to a Rome Prosecutor’s Office investigation probing alleged attempted extortion against the actor.

Among the phrases submitted for trademark examination is the viral expression “eye-shattering,” which Bova had sent to model Martina Ceretti in messages later made public by Fabrizio Corona. The filing also includes the phrase: “Good morning special being, with a wonderful smile.”

“This initiative aims to block the unlawful dissemination of the audio content,” explained Bova’s lawyer, Annamaria Bernardini De Pace. “The entire application is now under review by the Patent Office. It will take several weeks, but if approved, those phrases cannot be used without Raoul’s permission, otherwise sanctions will apply.”
