Repeat Offender Arrested for Convent Theft in Viterbo

Police on motorbikes arrested a 56-year-old man with multiple prior convictions, accused of stealing from a religious institution. The suspect, already wanted across Italy for other crimes, attempted to break into the San Bernardino convent in Viterbo’s Piazza della Morte yesterday morning.

This was not his first attempt. The previous week, he successfully infiltrated the same convent and stole €1,000 in cash. This time, however, his luck ran out after nuns alerted authorities, prompting swift police intervention.

Two motorcycle officers rapidly combed Viterbo’s medieval district and located the fleeing suspect, who attempted escape by bicycle. A subsequent check revealed the man was already sought by police to serve a one-year prison sentence for a prior offense.

He has now been remanded to Viterbo’s Nicandro Izzo prison to serve his existing sentence, pending additional charges for the new offenses.
