Three Minors Involved in Fatal Milan Accident Placed in Protective Custody, Fourth Sought

Three of the four minors involved in the car accident that struck and killed Cecilia De Astis in Milan have been removed from their families and placed in a secure location. The emergency measure was carried out by Milan’s Local Police between Wednesday evening and last night. Authorities are actively searching for the fourth minor, currently unreachable. The Local Police stated the urgent action “became necessary as the families had left their residence without communicating their intentions, despite initial cooperation with the investigation.”

The minors will subsequently be placed in protected community facilities with the assistance of the Milan Municipality’s emergency child services unit. The decision to relocate the three youths was made in agreement with the Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office. The Prosecutor’s Office had recently filed urgent petitions for the minors’ protection and was awaiting necessary rulings from the Court. One minor, a girl, was apprehended in the province of Cuneo with the cooperation of the Piedmont Regional Highway Police. Two brothers, including the driver of the car responsible for Ms. De Astis’s death, were located on agricultural land in the Turin area.

The funeral of Cecilia De Astis was held in the afternoon. During the homily, Father Davide Bertocchi stated, “Jesus, with his love, taught that the only enemies are death and evil. Evil and death are the only enemies. No person is to be considered an enemy. This is Jesus’s greatest teaching. Even if these people are imprisoned by evil.” He added, “Even less so children. Even less so children who have been denied a childhood and for whom we can only pray and hope that they finally find someone who can teach them the love that conquers evil.”
