Rome Police Nab Gambler and Pickpocket in Trevi Fountain Operations

Rome’s Local Police Historic Center Group I conducted targeted patrols this weekend in the Tridente district, focusing on tourist protection and combating illegal activities near the Trevi Fountain, resulting in interventions against two individuals.

On Via di San Vincenzo, following recent crackdowns on illegal gambling that had already led to charges against around fifteen people days earlier, officers identified another man luring passersby into the “three bells game” scam. Police immediately halted the illicit activity. The 31-year-old Romanian citizen was charged with illegal gambling and also reported for suspected drug possession.

Also near the Trevi Fountain, officers on patrol noticed a girl attempting to steal a wallet from a tourist’s bag. Police intervened immediately, apprehending the suspect who had dropped the wallet. Officers recovered and returned the property to the Polish tourist.

The 20-year-old Rome native responsible for the attempted theft was taken to the Via della Greca police station for booking and formally charged.
