Long-Awaited Acilia Sud – Dragona Station Opens on Rome-Lido Line

After years of delays, the new Acilia Sud – Dragona station on Rome’s Lido railway line officially entered service today. Lazio’s Regional Councillor for Transport and Mobility, Fabrizio Ghera, inaugurated the facility this morning alongside residents and local officials.

“This station’s reactivation and opening fulfilled a key objective of the Rocca administration,” stated Councillor Ghera. “It’s a strategic project for a densely populated district. Once the pedestrian-cyclist bridge to Dragona is completed, it will reconnect neighborhoods currently divided by Via del Mare. Construction on two additional stations—Giardino di Roma and Torrino-Mezzocammino—begins this autumn, underscoring our regional government’s commitment to this railway and territory. Through Astral, we launched an unprecedented renewal plan for this line, while Cotral has overhauled train fleet maintenance, now operating eight functional train cars. We acknowledge past challenges but emphasize our concrete results, like today’s achievement.”

The station features two above-ground levels: a street-level entrance via Bepi Romagnoni with a lobby, ticket office, retail spaces, and facilities; and an upper platform-level floor housing Astral technical rooms and staff offices.

Platforms measure 150 meters long and 4 meters wide, featuring 100-meter-long metal shelters. Critical amenities include escalators, elevators eliminating architectural barriers, a thrust-built rail underpass connecting platforms, and upgraded hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems alongside exterior landscaping.
