Mere hours after the publication of the sports decree in the Official Gazette, Italy’s Minister for Sport and Youth, Andrea Abodi, has initiated the appointment of a government extraordinary commissioner for the Milan Cortina 2026 Paralympics. “The choice, agreed upon with the Minister for Disabilities Alessandra Locatelli and following consultation with Italian Paralympic Committee President Giunio De Sanctis,” states a ministry release, “has fallen to Giuseppe Fasiol.” Fasiol will coordinate necessary activities and implementations to ensure optimal organization and correct execution of the Paralympic Games, which remain entrusted to the Milano Cortina 2026 Foundation. The release further notes: “Engineer Fasiol possesses extensive, high-level experience in the Veneto Region, overseeing infrastructure, transport, public works, state property, building, and territorial planning. He is therefore the qualified figure with the right expertise to assess and implement the essential adaptations for the athletes’ specific needs and the modification of Paralympic venues and competition fields.”
