A 14-year-old boy reported missing at sea off Civitavecchia was successfully rescued late on the afternoon of August 11th. The teenager had ventured out alone around 2:30 PM on a stand-up paddleboard (SUP) and subsequently lost contact.
His parents raised the alarm after he failed to return. The Coast Guard immediately deployed its 24-hour Search and Rescue (SAR) patrol boat, which initiated a southbound search pattern accounting for prevailing sea and weather conditions. As authorities considered mobilizing additional resources—including aircraft—the boy was located near Marangone. Found in good health, he was transferred aboard the Coast Guard vessel and returned to port, where his relieved family awaited him.
This rescue follows another intervention just hours earlier during the night of August 10–11, when Terracina Coast Guard patrol boats assisted thirteen people stranded on small craft in waters off the Circeo promontory. Caught by a sudden deterioration in weather during the St. Lawrence Night meteor shower, the individuals had been unable to return to shore independently.
