The European Union and allied nations have urgently called on the Israeli government to authorize all international NGO aid shipments and permit essential humanitarian workers to operate. “Immediate, permanent, and concrete measures are needed to facilitate safe, large-scale access for the UN, international NGOs, and humanitarian partners,” stated a declaration by EU High Representative Kaja Kallas. The appeal, signed by multiple EU and non-EU countries including Australia, the UK, and Japan—but reportedly not Germany or Italy—warned that “famine in Gaza is unfolding before our eyes.” Separately, UN Secretary-General António Guterres demanded “an independent and impartial investigation” into the Israeli military’s killing of six Al Jazeera journalists in Gaza. UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric emphasized these deaths “highlight the extreme risks journalists continually face covering the ongoing conflict.” In related developments, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni reportedly urged Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to secure an immediate Gaza ceasefire during a phone discussion.
