Latina continues its routine and emergency mosquito disinfection operations carried out by the city’s contracted service provider. A third cycle of non-polluting adulticide treatments targeting adult mosquitoes begins tonight at 11 PM. The city administration initiated this specific intervention type on June 17th and will conduct four total cycles through September.
Concurrently, daily daytime larvicide treatments using non-polluting biological products are applied across the territory in drains, ditches, and stagnant water areas. The City of Latina began these larvicide efforts in April and is currently executing its fourth cycle. Crews perform daily treatments in various city zones, with operations continuing through December for a total of nine cycles.
Mayor Matilde Celentano stated, “Due to the spread of West Nile virus in our area, we maintain daily contact with the Latina Local Health Authority (ASL). They identify potential infection hotspots where we perform emergency disinfection within 24-48 hours, supplementing routine efforts. We have conducted 51 emergency interventions so far.” She added that coordination is ongoing with all mayors in the territory, convened at a July 29th health conference focused on West Nile prevention, and with experts from the Ministry of Health for discussions tomorrow on arbovirus control best practices.
Celentano emphasized citizen responsibility: “Everyone must follow the current ordinance to reduce mosquito bites and limit proliferation. The rules are simple: use repellents, wear protective clothing, install screens, and remove standing water.”
