Al Jazeera announced that two of its correspondents and two cameramen were killed today in what it described as a targeted Israeli strike on their tent in Gaza City. The Qatari-based broadcaster stated, “Al Jazeera journalist Anas al-Sharif was killed alongside three colleagues in what appears to be a targeted Israeli attack,” quoting the director of Gaza City’s al-Shifa hospital.
Separately, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) stated they had eliminated a “journalist-terrorist,” identified as Anas al-Sharif, in the Gaza City area of the northern Strip, according to the Ynet news site.
An IDF spokesperson’s declaration alleged that “the terrorist masked his identity by operating under false pretenses,” but was instead “the head of a Hamas cell and promoted plans to launch rockets against citizens of the State of Israel and Israeli forces.”
