A firefront spanning approximately two kilometers is active on Mount Vesuvius. During this morning’s security committee meeting, Naples Prefect Michele di Bari provided an update on firefighting operations, expressing gratitude to the multiple institutions involved. “I thank them,” stated Prefect di Bari, “for the tremendous work they are doing.”
Information exchange between the Operational Centers (Coc) of four Vesuvian municipalities and the Prefecture remains constant. Firefighting efforts currently involve ten aircraft: six from the national fleet and four regional. They are supported by units from the fire brigade, the Forestry Carabinieri, national and regional civil protection agencies, the Sma Campania company, and the Naples metropolitan police.
Army personnel are assisting local police forces with traffic control and monitoring water storage basins. These basins are crucial refill points for aircraft conducting successive water drops on the blaze.
