Volleyball Player Simona Cinà Died by Drowning, Autopsy Reveals

Italian volleyball player Simona Cinà, found dead in a Bagheria villa swimming pool last Saturday, reportedly died by drowning, according to preliminary autopsy results. The young athlete from Capaci was attending a graduation celebration for two friends when she was discovered.

The recently completed autopsy found water in Cinà’s lungs, confirming drowning as the cause of death. Investigators stated the examination ruled out a heart attack or underlying congenital health issues as factors.

Authorities have not yet established the exact time of death. Crucially, the autopsy could not determine whether Cinà drowned after a sudden natural medical episode or if involuntary drug or alcohol consumption triggered the incident. The results of pending toxicological tests are required to clarify this central question.

Prosecutors are investigating the death for potential manslaughter. Cinà’s family is demanding a full explanation, although investigators currently consider an accidental death or medical emergency the most likely scenario.
