Italy’s Data Protection Authority (Garante) has opened an investigation following the dissemination of audio, or excerpts, from a private conversation involving actor Raoul Bova. The probe aims to ascertain potential violations of privacy laws and journalists’ ethical codes.
The watchdog emphasized that the audio—”disseminated without consent”—originated from a private chat conversation between the actor and a third party. The content was subsequently amplified across social media, “often accompanied by posts, videos, and memes of an ironic or denigrating nature,” gaining significant media attention.
Acting on the actor’s complaint, the Authority also issued a warning to all potential users of the audio or content extracted from the private conversation. It reiterated that any further dissemination could lead to the adoption of all measures deemed appropriate, including sanctions.
